After having abandoned the campaign to become the U.S. president in 2016, Rand Paul has stated that he would not endorse any candidate in the primaries, but would endorse the eventual GOP nominee.
Two things can be said about this:
1: First of all, Rand Paul is a coward for not wanting to endorse a specific candidate in the primaries. Perhaps he’s afraid to show his true positions (or something close to it anyway) by picking a horse now. Endorsing the eventual GOP nominee could simply be explained as being a team player, without having to expose your true positions.
2: Rather than being an independent-minded guy with principles (like his father) and being the liberty candidate he claims to be, he is willing to endorse whatever guy ends up being the eventual GOP nominee. So this goes even if the eventual GOP nominee is a neocon war-hawk; a lover of the police state; a supporter of big government; a pro-Patriot Act tyrant; an inveterate abuser of the U.S. constitution, etc. In other words, his principles and his alleged liberty-mindedness obviously take a backseat to his loyalty to the Republican Party.
So why was anyone to believe that this man would have been principled even on his own positions if he felt they were contradicting what would have been best for the GOP, now that he has shown party comes before principles and positions?
Rand Paul was, is, and i think will always be a fraud; a pied piper trying to scam his father’s following into dancing back into the GOP-flock.
And that is why he bombed. Because too many libertarians, by virtue of being libertarians, are wise to the tricks of opportunistic politicians like him.
Update: Interesting question by Bionic Mosquito:
Where are all the pragmatic so-called libertarians who praised Rand for toning down Ron’s message, suggesting this was a sure way to broaden his appeal and breakout into the mainstream? Pathetic human beings, the only thing they accomplished was to drown out a movement toward liberty. They can be labeled as stupid…or successful.
Well??? Where are they?
Rand was just ‘playing the game’, indeed. See here, here, here, and a whole host of comments on blogs where Rand Paul sycophants refused to see how abandoning principles will achieve nothing because it would make Rand look like neither fowl nor fish. Does this mean that the so-called “pragmatists” and “realists” will now finally stop deluding themselves that the system can be worked in favor of liberty? Probably not.
