In the blog I posted yesterday, called “Leave virtue signaling to the left” I specifically mentioned, among others, Reason as an example of an organization that “(tries) to play footsie with mainstream progressive sentiment in order to come across as “reasonable.”
Well whatta you know? Turns out that they’ve released a video on ReasonTV, narrated by sleep inducing bore Zach Weissmueller, that manages to give me a perfect example of this. Thanks to Lauren Southern for sifting through the unholy virtue signaling mess so i don’t have to.
First I want to repeat something I wrote:
“In libertarian philosophy, nobody is in any way obligated to have any position whatsoever on anything, other than private property rights and the non-aggression principle. While outside of the realm of libertarianism-qua-libertarianism, people can be appealed to, to morally condemn any action, it can only be done as individuals. Not as whites; not as right-wingers and not libertarians. None of these latter groupings or affiliations have any kind of collective responsibility or guilt for what happened in Charlottesville, and therefore also no obligation to openly condemn the right-wing or white groups involved.”
As you will see in the video at the bottom, this is exactly what ReasonTV does: to condemn the “alt-right” as a whole (problems with this form of generalization are underlined by Lauren Southern), not as an individual outside of the realm of libertarianism-qua-libertarianism, but as a libertarian. Narrator in the ReasonTV segment therefore pretends he is speaking in the name of libertarianism itself.
Something else I wrote, and this is important, and will also be addressed by Lauren Southern in her video near the end:
“Those on the alleged “right” (including free market libertarians such as those at Reason) that joined the left in their chorus of boos against Donald Trump for dealing out condemnation across the board, are either deliberately or unwittingly accepting the left’s narrative of political correctness, and are complicit in imposing this blight further upon society. They are accepting the left’s narrative. They’re modern day useful idiots and should be treated as such, to a man.”
Lauren Southern concludes that Reason is not libertarian, but “corporatists willing to sell their ideology, their nation and their freedom to shell terrible advice from the Koch brothers, who fund you massively, and who are very anti-Trump and pro-mass immigration.”
If you don’t believe this: ask yourself, after Lauren’s video, why reason (i.e. the intellectually honest employment of logical argumentation) is the last thing to be found in their ReasonTV segment, and deliberate misleading, obfuscation, and sophistry can be found in its place instead.
Reason got owned by Lauren Southern with… actual reason.
P.S. Zach Weissmueller; you’re flaccid, dispassionate treatment of the subject matter is not going to inspire anyone. You really do come across as someone with no skin in the game, which, if it’s indeed all about Koch money, would be easy to explain.
